'There's an easier way to generate a LOT more money for business in the West' - so says leading digi firm

What does 'software design' and 'cheese making' have in common?
Well... according to one of Galway's leading digi-businesses, Sybernet, there both 'cottage-industries' that are thriving back west.

Now, we hadn't thought of software design as a 'cottage industry' but when Sybernet explained the process of creating high tech dynamos such as their own, the connection with 'cheese making' becomes a good bit clearer!

We were told that many of the leading digi-businesses are no more that four/five person operations, which are 'labours of love' and carving out a niche in a very technical area.  In the case of Sybernet, they provide major organisations with automated services that allow individuals to make payments to public bodies safely over the telephone.  It's a cracker of a business and can be operated from a small little house in the West.  Our a 'cottage', if you will!

When we asked Sybernet how WestExpo could help the 'digi-business' in Galway their answer, like their own business, was very focused:
'Do what you are doing for the 'cottage industries' that will be participating with you.  For them you'll be inviting major supermarket buyers to come and see what the West has to offer in terms of food producers - giving these producers access that they would not normally get.  For digi-businesses why invite the Googles, Nortels & other multinational tech businesses to the RDS to see what the software designers of the West have to offer - this kind of 'face-time' could lead to major contracts for our creative industry.'

And there you have it... a brilliant idea on how 'community strength' in the field of digital business CAN make an impression on the big boys.

I think we have a new job at WestExpo - now let's bring the big tech buyers to the RDS!
